Feature Film | 90 minutes | Jenny Fischer
In 1944, Max is forced to move from Germany to Czechoslovakia. During his time in Saryb, he meets Lenka.
As time passes, the two grow closer and eventually become best friends.
In early 1945, Max’s family is forced to flee during the wild expulsions because of their loyal affiliation with the Nazi Party. With only a few belongings, they begin their escape back to their homeland.
The family is threatened and attacked, and Max is eventually separated from his parents and siblings, forced to find his way entirely on his own. Meanwhile, Lenka searches for him. She makes it her mission to help Max return home safely. It seems that she finally succeeds: the two reunite in a small Czech-Slovak village and set out together toward Max’s former homeland—until they are separated once again, and Max is deported to a labor camp in Prague.
When Max is released, their paths cross one last time. Together they attempt to escape, enduring every hardship, each of them forced to grow and change in their own way, until their deep friendship ultimately turns into love.
