OSOPPO, THE OBSTACLE OF DREAMS
Feature Film | 90 minutes | Patrizia Carrano
This story, blending fantasy with real events, tells of the deep bond that developed in the two years leading up to this extraordinary achievement between an exceptional yet temperamental horse and young Salvatore — a boy raised on a thoroughbred stud farm in southern Italy. There, Osoppo finally finds in Salvatore a friend who truly understands him.
The growing affection between this aristocratic horse and this poor young boy draws them into an adventure that takes them from the sun-drenched fields of southern Italy to Rome, where the Italian equestrian team trains, and eventually to Austria. It is there that Osoppo is sent to recover from a serious injury, and Salvatore secretly follows him. Together, they accomplish a heroic act, an overlooked masterpiece that will remain etched in memory.
They are surrounded by unforgettable characters: Albertine, Osoppo’s unhappy first owner; Alvaro, an outsider who finds refuge in his drawings of animals to which he feels deeply connected; Salvatore’s taciturn mother, who is nonetheless willing to let her son go when she realizes it is the only thing that can make him happy; and the fatherly Signor Ettore, a man of great experience in the equestrian world.
Against this backdrop unfold the brilliant yellow fields of southern Italy, the vivid green meadows where Osoppo trains in Rome, and the deep shadows of the Austrian forests — a perfect setting for a boy who, on the back of “his” horse, achieves the impossible.
