THE EYE OF THE EARTHQUAKE
Documentary | 75-90 minutes | Salvatore Metastasio
The Eye of the Earthquake is an auteur documentary with a strong cinematic approach,
built around a powerful narrative device: a restorer, in his workshop, brings back to life an old seismic model inherited from his father and films it on 8mm, as if leaving a visual
testament for his child.
From this intimate gesture unfolds a wider story: the birth of modern seismology with Robert Mallet (1857), the historical traces of the great earthquake in Southern Italy, and the way science, institutions, and territory today coexist with a permanent risk.
This is not a film about the earthquake as an event. It is a film about the act of looking at risk—before it becomes ruin.
