LISZT – THE LAST CONCERT
SYNOPSIS
Franz Liszt is a restless spirit. He has not had a permanent residence for years, only stays everywhere for a few weeks or months, enjoys the exchange with other artists in the respective cultural strongholds, gives piano lessons to selected students, but only very rarely concerts. In between, he retreats more and more often to Bayreuth near his daughter Cosima, although the relationship between the two is difficult.
On 6 July 1886, Liszt, coming from Bayreuth, arrived at Colpach Castle in Luxembourg. In the spirit of the approaching Belle Époque, the Munkácsys have succeeded in turning their country estate into a place where artists and intellectuals meet.
In addition to Liszt, his long-time friend Cardinal Lajos Haynald is also invited. The meeting and the conversations with him unplanned become a kind of life confession during the stay together.
When Franz Liszt was persuaded to perform, he perhaps suspected that this concert in Luxembourg would be his last. And he succeeds in reviving his former energy and working the old magic that has captivated the people of Europe for more than half a century.
After this powerful performance, none of the spectators can imagine that the world-famous musician will die a short time later in Bayreuth.
Liszt spent only 15 days in Luxembourg, but they nevertheless testified to the conscious transition of a genius into another life.
We tell the story over several time levels; in Rücksprung, we also dedicate ourselves to the young, successful artist who enjoys life to the fullest. Unfortunately, his excesses were often at the expense of his companions, partners and children. But Liszt never spared himself either.
